Composite Gully Grates
SMC FRP/GRP drainage gratings — theft-proof, corrosion-free, and light enough to lift by hand for cleaning.
Our composite gully grates are SMC FRP/GRP drainage gratings that replace cast iron over road gullies, channels and catch basins. Being non-metallic, they have no scrap value to attract theft, never corrode in standing water, and are light enough for one worker to lift during desilting — yet carry EN124 loads up to F900.
Easy Install
One worker fits it by hand; no lifting gear, lower freight
Theft-Proof
Zero scrap value, so they're not stolen like iron
Corrosion-proof
Resists acids, alkalis and salt spray; ideal for coastal
Weatherproof
Handles harsh sun and heat without warping or fading
Safe
Non-conductive and anti-skid, even when wet

Composite Gully Grate FAQ
What is a composite gully grate?
A composite gully grate is a non-metallic drainage grating molded from SMC FRP/GRP that sits over a road gully, channel or catch basin in place of cast iron. It carries EN124 traffic loads but has no scrap value, won’t corrode, and is light enough to lift by hand for cleaning.
Are composite gully gratings strong enough for roads?
Yes. Built to EN124 C250 and D400, they handle kerbside and carriageway traffic, and E600/F900 versions cover ports and heavy industrial yards. The even glass-fiber reinforcement provides the strength — see the load options in the specification table above.
Do composite gully gratings get stolen like iron ones?
No. Cast-iron gratings are stolen for their scrap value; composite FRP/GRP has none, so thieves leave them in place. That’s a major reason utilities switch to composite on theft-prone routes — fewer open gullies and far fewer replacements.
How do you clean and lift a composite gully grate?
Routine desilting means lifting the grate to clear silt and debris below. At about a third of iron’s weight, one worker can do it by hand; a purpose-made drain grate and manhole cover lifter makes it quicker and safer for hinged or bolted units.
What load classes and sizes are available?
EN124 A15 to F900, with clear openings and waterway areas built to your drawing. Most roads use C250–D400; pedestrian and yard areas use A15–B125. Need matching access covers too? See the composite manhole cover range.
Can you customize shape, color and waterway area?
Yes. Shape (round, square, rectangular or channel), clear opening, waterway/intake area, slot pattern, color and molded logo are all configurable, since the surface forms in the mold. They’re made from our SMC series — send drawings or a sample for a quote.
